What Verify checks

That it is a Chatsward PDF: The file is hashed and compared with the record made when the PDF was created. No reference number is needed: the document itself is what is checked.
Whether it has changed since: A document altered after it was created no longer matches its record. Pages added in front of or behind the messages, such as a cover sheet, do not prevent a match.
When it was created: You see the trusted timestamp held for the document: a time signed by an independent timekeeping authority (RFC 3161), not taken from our own clock.
Open to anyone: No account is needed, so the other side, court staff or a judge can check a document handed to them. The file you add is not kept.

Verify checks a document against our records. Whether the conversation in it is genuine, and what weight it carries, are matters for the court to decide.
